FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an audio compressor do?
An audio compressor reduces the dynamic range of an audio signal by attenuating signals that exceed a specified threshold. This makes loud sections quieter and allows the overall audio to sound punchier, more consistent, and clearer.
How does it work in the browser?
We use the Web Audio API DynamicsCompressorNode running in an OfflineAudioContext. The browser renders the compressed audio faster than real-time entirely on your device with pristine 32-bit floating point precision.
What do the compressor settings mean?
Threshold determines at what dB level compression kicks in. Ratio sets how aggressively the signal above threshold is reduced (e.g. 4:1). Attack is how quickly the compressor acts when threshold is crossed, and Release is how quickly it returns to normal.
Are any files uploaded?
None whatsoever. All audio processing is 100% client-side in your web browser. No accounts or external APIs required.
