Frequently asked questions

Why convert stereo to mono?

Mono audio is required for many broadcast, podcast, and telephony systems. It also cuts file size roughly in half and avoids phase cancellation issues when audio plays back through a single speaker.

Will I lose audio quality?

The conversion averages both channels mathematically. You won't lose clarity or dynamic range — you simply lose the stereo width. The output is a lossless 16-bit WAV at the original sample rate.

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. All processing happens in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your file never leaves your device.

What file formats are supported?

Any format your browser can decode — typically MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, and WebM. The output is always a WAV file.

What if my file is already mono?

The tool will process it and produce the same mono audio. It will show 1 channel in the 'before' info, and the output will also be 1 channel.
